A native of Germany, I showed an early interest in
drawing and painting, which was very much encouraged by my parents.
I was very fortunate to be surrounded by art, music, literature and
early exposure to Theater, Concerts and trips to Museums.
I received my formal art education at the "School of
Art and Design" in Offenbach, Germany, majoring in illustration and
Graphic Design.
Marriage brought me to New York, where I continued my
studies at 'F.I.T.' School of Visual Arts and Parson's School of Design.
I worked for many years as a Fashion Illustrator, Textile Designer,
running the Framing Department of an art store on Long Island and
being eventually promoted to Gallery Director, in charge of Art and
Framing of the 'Now and Then Gallery' . Unfortunately, after one
year of managing the Gallery, the owner passed away unexpectedly and the gallery had to close.
These
were very good years in New York, interesting, stimulating, and opening my
eyes to the cultural riches that this vibrant city offered. Art
was always my passion and I continued taking classes, exploring new
techniques, and enriching my life. I still hear my father saying to me
before I left for this big adventure which was America: Always do your
art, no matter how busy your life is. This is you, this is your
identity, never forget this! Very wise words....
Now I make my home with my husband here in South
Florida. Our son still lives in New York. It's a new chapter
in our lives. We fell in love with the light, colors, and the
incredible vegetation of South Florida, though we do miss the mountains.
After settling in, I was ready to get back to my art and I started
taking classes at the Coral Springs Center of the Arts.
I explored the
technique of mixed media and collage, using all kinds of innovative materials.
This set me on a new, exiting path of discovery and experimentation,
which kept me deeply involved. I then joined the Boca Raton
Artists Guild, served for years on their board, entering many shows
locally, nationally, and internationally, receiving numerous awards.
My work has been seen among other venues, at the
Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Lurie Gallery at the Gallery Center in
Boca Raton, the Nathan D. Rosen Gallery, the Amory Art Center, and also
in Arizona, New York, Pennsylvania, New Zealand, Mexico, and France.
It was very gratifying to see many of my paintings find a new home.
People that responded to my work seemed to share a similar sensibility.
These years here in Florida have given me the time and focus to find my
own voice and to welcome the exchange and input of so many creative and
talented, like-minded people, many who have become dear friends.
Now I have been given this opportunity to show a body
of my work in this beautiful Museum, where the seeds for my mixed media
work was planted about 10 years ago.
